The Car

Though we've had many good years together, it's time for our '65 MGB MKI to move on to a new keeper, as we have recently started a family. The car is a spring 1965 car which means it is one of the last produced with the desirable 'pull handle' doors. It is still mainly in factory stock configuration, though a few key components have been modernized for more reliable usage.

Features & Recent Work

The car was restored with new paint and a re-trimmed interior around 10 years ago, and much further work has been carried out since. The original 1800cc 4cyl engine is still paired with the 4 speed transmission (correct non-syncro first) and both function well. The distributor has been upgraded to a new Pertronix unit with an electronic ignition module and high-output coil. A spin-on oil filter conversion that takes Fram filters has been fitted to replace the messy and fiddly original canister type. A new high-torque starter really kicks the little engine over fast. The clutch and ring gear were replaced in 2007, and a Falcon stainless steel exhaust system was fitted shortly after. The front and rear suspension has been rebuilt with polyurathane bushings and both u-joints on the driveshaft were replaced. A Moto-Lita leather rimmed steering wheel was installed, along with a modern Alpine 4-speaker stereo with ipod connectivity. The pack-away-hood was new in 2007, and a servicable but worn tonneau cover is included. New 3-point shoulder belt seatbelts help keep everyone safe.

The 10 year old restoration is mellowing nicely now, and though there is a bit of wear in some areas, the car still drives and shows very well. Most importantly, it is always stored in a garage and there is no rust. The paint is super shiny and clear, but there are some stone chips on the leading edge of the hood, and there is a small dent on the driver's rear fender. The chrome was all redone 10 years ago and still in great condition. The top is newer and the vinyl windows are clear, the carpets are still nice and seats are in great shape. The engine always starts easily with a little choke, and it shifts smoothly through the gears. Everything works properly aside from a non-op horn, and a floppy turn signal switch.

Spare Parts

A small assortment of spare parts are included with the car. Specifically, the parts to put the engine back to 100% stock (original distributor, canister oil-filter assembly, etc) are included with the car. The original jack and spare are still in the trunk.

History & Records

As far as I know, the car was restored around 2003 in the San Francisco Bay area. Unfortunately, there are no records of the restoration or anything at all before we took ownership of the car in 2007. Since then all work and parts have documented reciepts.
